The story of Bagh Print
Bagh print cannot be replicated anywhere in the world—even if you carry the same wooden blocks, use the same natural dyes, and follow the exact same process.
It is the water.
This ancient craft is born in Bagh village, in the heart of Dhar district, on the banks of the sacred Baghini River. Here, the river is not just a backdrop—it is a living technology. Rich in natural lime and copper, its water acts as a powerful fixative, giving Bagh prints their unmatched depth, brilliance, and permanence.
Every fabric begins its journey in water and earth—washed, softened, and treated with natural cleansers made from goat dung, castor oil, and rock salt. Dyes are created from alum, iron rust, flowers, and seeds. Patterns, inspired by tribal art and ancient architecture, are carved into wooden blocks and pressed carefully by hand.
After printing, the cloth is returned to the river, boiled in copper vessels, dried in fire, and bleached under the sun. Over nearly a month, nature and artisans work together.
What you wear is not just fabric. It is a place, a process, and a story—woven forever into cloth.
Honoring the Hands Behind the Craft
At Swadehi, every product is created in collaboration with skilled Indian artisans—custodians of craft traditions passed down through generations.
Each piece reflects not just technique, but time, patience, and cultural heritage. From the carving of wooden blocks to the final print, every step is carried out by hand, preserving methods that cannot be replicated by machines.
We work closely with artisan communities to ensure fair practices, sustainable production, and the continued relevance of traditional crafts in a modern world.
When you choose this piece, you are not just buying a product—you are supporting a legacy of craftsmanship that lives through the hands that make it.
