The process involves applying molten wax to fabric before dyeing it. The wax resists the dye, creating intricate designs, while fine cracks in the wax produce the characteristic patterns that make Batik instantly recognisable.

Bherugarh Batik received a Geographical Indication (GI) tag in 2023, recognising its distinctive identity and cultural heritage.
